Referees of Year by William Lee
Many thanks go out to all of the JLYSSL referees this fall. We had the best coverage we have had in years thanks to your help out on the pitch. In fact this year we had almost 60% less games not covered than last year. Last year there were 179 games uncovered and this year it was down 88. Most of those were in the Class IV division as we had pretty good coverage on the Class III and Class I. Yes in a perfect world we would have every single game covered with a referee but the reality is there an awful lot of games each season.
This league does a terrific job of providing soccer playing opportunity to youth in our community. Over 7000 players and hundreds of teams. It is huge effort to get game on fields and referees to manage them. But it gets done due to the terrific hard work of the referee coordinators and the refs themselves who come out to make the games safe for our kids.
Referee of the Year - Bill Holloway
Bill had been a referee for more than 10 year, he worked more than 20 games this
season. He did mostly the toughest games and a lot of them he had to do solo.
He went to the fields that few referees want to go, like San Pablo Park and Bishop
O' Dowd.
Youth Referee of the Year - Roman Barranco
Roman
is a runaway winner for this award. He did more than 30 games. He is comfortable
with being Center Referee in games as high as Class III U14 Boys. Congratulations
Roman and we look forward to seeing you out on the pitch next season helping
our kids out.
Iron Man Award - Csaba Peto
This is a new award for referees that did the most qualified games.
Casba did 44 games so far this season and he signed up for another 6 games
in the end of season tournament.
This is only his second year as referee and he is already doing Class I and Class III games. In addition to this, Csaba did 33 games in the Spring season.
